Our brain’s have the ability to grow new connections and can create new neurological pathways that lead to renewed and reenergised brain functions in our bodies giving us a new lease of life, this process is called neuroplasticity. The drawing above is a personal glimpse into a time earlier this year when my dad was hospitalised and we created this drawing/moment together. My father was rushed to hospital after having a life threatening stroke. Urgent care/treatment is vital after having a stroke so if you ever witness any of the signs you need to act FAST the signs are face drooping, arm weakness, speech slurring and time is of the essence.
“It took us a while to get to this stage of replicating drawings on a white board as for quite some time my dad lost the ability to write, walk and talk.”This image captures a defining moment in my father’s healing process post stroke and to me signifies an example of a moment of connection, building strength through adversity and this really gave a sense that my dad was on the right pathway back to health”.
Recovery from a stroke can be slow and frustrating at times, however it’s essential to focus on the small wins we achieve along the way and to make sure you are surrounded with a good support network that keeps you informed and motivated and most importantly to not give up!
Just like a plant can grow new shoots and it’s buds turn into beautiful flowers I feel we can also overcome difficult situations and come out of the other side stronger and better for our experiences.
